If you have had an e mail saying you have been refunded but you know your card has expired, please check your bank account as some banks do accept payments under these circumstances. There are also 4 people who need to be refunded once we open the 2019 event which we hope to do after Iâ€™ve had a very large G+T! If you have a query please pm the page and Iâ€™ll look into it for you. A huge THANK YOU to you all for being so patient with us. Itâ€™s been difficult as we were learning and we had record numbers of entrants. Weâ€™ll let you know when weâ€™re live for 2019 and hope to see you next year. Chris Martin Race Director 28/02/2018 Round The Lakes ***We have just e mailed our race entrants and those who had expressed an interest in entering. Our previous e mail failed to reach a couple of you so I am also posting the e mail content here too - I'd rather duplicate than leave someone out: CANCELLATION of the Rhayader Round the Lakes 30km and 5 mile races 2018. Good evening, Further to my previous email on Monday evening, I am really sorry to advise that we are cancelling both the 30k and 5 mile races which were due to take place this Saturday. I carried out an inspection of the course and there were long stretches of sheet ice across the whole road. This was treacherous and certainly unrunnable and this is before the three days of snow which is still forecast. In these conditions, it will not be possible to guarantee the safety of runners, marshals and the emergency services, so regretfully the races are being cancelled. I know that you will be bitterly disappointed - the Committee and I can only apologise and assure you we did not take this decision lightly. We did discuss holding the races on an alternative date later this year, but this has proved impossible so the next races will be held on Saturday 2 March 2019. You now have the choice to either defer your entry or request a refund. Deferring means that your entry is held over to next year's race so that you can turn up at registration on race day in 2019, pick up your race number and timing chip and there will be no more money to pay. Alternatively, you can obtain a refund of your race entry fee via Entry Central. (We believe there may be an administrative charge of Â£1 for this but will confirm in due course). Over the next few days you will receive an e mail from Entry Central explaining what to do next. A update will be posted here soon afterwards. 26/02/2018 5K race series Exciting news! Our 5k series will now be part of the Mid Wales Summer 5k Championships with Maldwyn Harriers in Newtown! All individuals will be automatically entered but will need to have done at least 3/5 races and must include at least 1 race in Newtown. The dates of these races are as follows: 30th March - Chocoholics 5k in Newtown 9th May - Elan Valley 5k in Rhayader 23rd May - Elan Valley 5k in Rhayader 6th June - Elan Valley 5k in Rhayader 6th July - BBQ 5k in Newtown The presentation will take place on the 6th July after the race and medals will be given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. Barbara Lawrence memorial concert For those who knew Barbara Lawrence, there is a memorial concert for her on the 27th October (Sunday) from 7.30pm at Rhayader Leisure Centre. Doors open at 7pm. Rhayader Male Voice Choir and some of Barbara's friends will be there. Tickets can be bought from the newsagents in Rhayader and cost £5, all proceeds will go to charity. 30th Round the Lakes Round the Lakes will also include a off road kids race, details to follow. East Wales Cross Country Championships, Bridgend. 2012 East Wales Regional Cross Country Championships which will be held in conjunction with the Gwent League Cross Country at Newbridge fields Bridgend on Sunday 21st October. Entry Form Across Wales For Mary's Across Wales race report please click HERE Junoir Athletics Following a successful Startrack athletics event in Llandrindod Wells in the summer, I am delighted that Brecon AC has decided to go ahead with starting up a satellite club in Llandrindod Wells. The club will take place on Wednesdays, 5pm to 6pm, at the Llandrindod High School gym (and the ATP). The first club session will be on 10 October. The club is open to anyone between the ages 8 and 15. The first two weeks are free of charge, after that the weekly subs are £2 per person + the annual club membership fee to Brecon AC. The club activities will be led by UKA qualified coaches and leaders from Rhayader, and it is also supported by Welsh Athletics and Brecon AC. Kids Athletics Brecon athletic club are going to try to get training sessions in Llandrindod Wells for the juniors. This should bring a lot of children into the sport, and some thing that the area is missing, with the nearest athletic clubs being Brecon or Newtown. To get the club working in Llandod, it would need the support of parents willing to help out with coaching, you don't need experience for this but may need to attend a 3 hour workshop provided by Breco AC. This would a great time to get the sport active in the area. Triathlon races For those of you looking for a challenge, some local triathlon races are planned not far away. Cerist triathlon are holding a sprint triathlon at Machynlleth leisure centre on 17th June, and a olympic triathlon involving a sea swim on the 22nd July. Hereford triathlon club are holding a sprint triathlon on the 1st July. Intr triathlon club have a triathlon at Aberystwyth with a 750m sea swim, 30k bike loop and 5k run on the 23rd September. Runners V Bikers, 8th July 2012, Builth Wells Builth and Disrict RC are holding a 10k off road race on 8th July in aid of raising funds to build a childrens bike park in Builth Wells. Runners will have a 10k off road course with the bikers having a longer course. Runners V Bikers will be held at the Ffoerst Fields campsite, with a BBQ and kids races afterwards. Thursday,Meet at the Leisure Centre, Rhayader at 6.30pm. Assume off road unless the weather suggests otherwise. Sunday 20th May - Meet at the Elan Valley Visitor Centre at 9am or in Smithfields car park at 8.50am for those wishing to car share. This will be a circular route of approx 10 mile (on and off-road). Assume it will be coffee and cakes back at the centre afterwards. It will probably take us around 2 - 2 1/2 hours as some sections are quite hilly.
